It was the beginning of the Dust Bowl Era. My Popsey was about 10 years old and lived with his Daddy the sheriff, and his brother on a small farm in Faunsdale, Alabama. His Mama had “gone to pieces” as folk called it then, when she was around 40 and she had been sent to an institution.
