“So this is it then.”

“This is the day, my friend.”

“We are not friends, Avi.”

“I know.” Avi smiles darkly at Yusuf. “Merely cousins of a sort.”

“Well, maybe if we’d all remained in the tent…things would have been different. But Avr’ham sent them into the desert to die.” Yusuf shrugs. “That has a price.”

We paid it, Avi thinks to himself. But instead he says “We have negotiated a settlement. Let what is past be past.”

Yusuf nods once and checks the clock on the wall. Fifteen minutes until they have to face the cameras.

They have no mobile phones or other devices in the safe room they are meeting in, but both know they are being recorded by their respective governments.

What they have discussed will change the entire balance of power on the planet.

They were about to do the one thing no one would ever have expected: Unifying Sarah’s children with Hagar’s children to defeat their real enemies: War, Poverty, Famine, and Disease.

“Let what has been riven be unified. Each of us, in our own way, must adhere to the covenants made with our G-d.”
